About

Hiya! Thanks for stopping by!

I am a bike-riding, scuba-diving, music-loving, coffee-drinking, adventure-seeking epidemiologist living in London, England, writing about whatever strikes my fancy.

This site is an eclectic mix of some of my favourite things:

Budding podcaster

I recently have launched a podcast with my bestie Lisa, which you can find on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, and other places podcasts live.

Periodic travel blogger

I love to travel and share photos of my adventures. I have visited 41 countries (which is approximately 20% of the countries in the world) and I can’t wait to explore more!

Imperfect, aspiring minimalist

I also write occasionally on my attempts to live a more intentional, eco-friendly, and minimalist life. This has not been without missteps (and impulse Amazon purchases), but I love sharing some of my small wins and epic fails.

Enthusiastic epidemiologist

For the first time in my career, most people know what an epidemiologist does (hint, it is not look at epidermal rashes), but study disease trends (ahem COVID?). I specialise in psychiatric epidemiology, which is the study of the causes and consequences of mental illnesses. I love my research and am enthusiastic about using big data to better understand mental health, so I share some of my research on this site as well.

Unapologetic book worm

I am a voracious reader and love sharing the books I love (and the one I think were total plonkers). If you are a book worm, feel free to find me on GoodReads: https://www.goodreads.com/lovelyoutliers

  1. Hi Jen ,

I really enjoy reading your blog and thought I’d say hi!

I was wondering whether you’d consider joining the Discovery book review community — I think we could potentially be a good fit.

In case you haven’t heard of Discovery, we spotlight gems of the indie publishing world — great books that are often overshadowed by big bestsellers.

What do you think? I’m happy to chat more via email! You can reach me on victoria.jacobi@reedsy.com

All the best, and thanks for your interesting work on the blog,
Victoria, Professional Book Nerd @ Discovery
