The small little PEI is littered with lighthouses. It is thought to have the highest concentration of lighthouses and range lights in North America, with over 61 dotted along the 224km-long province.
Equipped with our lighthouse map, we endeavored to find as many of the shining beacons as we could. some are very accessible – a few you can go up and check out little museums, others require light trespassing… Unfortunately, this is not indicated on the map, so it is an adventure to figure out which ones you can find. Had we known this, we might have used the map at Prince Edward Island Lighthouse Society to figure out which ones were public.
Lighthouses don’t go running all over an island looking for boats to save; they just stand there shining (Anne Lamott).
Since light houses do not run around the island, it makes it much easier to catch them, which we strongly recommend!
