Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world: Casablanca

There is something so exciting about the first day of a trip! I had 24 hours to spend in Casablanca, and I could not have imagined a better start.

I met up with a new pal who I had met on the plane and spent the morning on a stunning beach. Basically, I have realised that I need to take up surfing so I have another excuse to spend all my time by the sea.

Excellent brunch with a view!

I spent the rest of the day wandering the sights, including the stunning Hassan II Mosque, and getting trapped into some accidental, non-consensual henna (beware of sweet ladies who take your hand while wandering as an obvious tourist).

The briefest trip notes: it was super easy to get from the airport to the city centre, as there is a train that leaves from the terminal every hour for only a few bucks. That means you get to save the haggling with taxi drivers as a cultural experience to “savour” later.

Other than the mosque, many people check out Rick’s Cafe, a recreation of the bar from the Hollywood classic film, although I gave it a miss this time around, as they have a stuffy dress code and I figured I would skip the overpriced cocktails for a fresh pomegranate juice along the sea.
