Peeking at the big one: Scenic flight(s) to see Everest

We booked tickets for a scenic flight that leaves the Kathmandu airport, cruises along the Himilayan range, and turns around for a second pass to see all the biggest mountains.

They can only do this flight at 6am and will only do the flight if visibility and weather conditions are ok. It took us three tries – three 530am wakeups and taxis to the airport, but we finally got a day with good enough conditions to hit the skies.

  1. Wow, what a stunning experience—worth every early wakeup! Everest peeking through like that gave me chills. This really energizes me for another trip to Namche and staying at Yeti Mountain Home—nothing like Sherpa hospitality in the heart of the Himalayas.
